Evidence. Policy. Impact.
Rigorous research for better public decisions.
The Berea Institute for Public Policy & Development is an independent, non-profit think tank producing evidence that governments, funders and civil society can act on.
Our mission
We exist to close the distance between credible evidence and the decisions that shape people's lives.
Berea combines applied economics, political analysis and field research to produce work that stands up to scrutiny and arrives while decisions are still open. We publish openly, disclose our methods, and work alongside the institutions we study.
The name Berea comes from Acts 17:11, where the Bereans were described as people who eagerly received information and carefully examined the evidence before accepting it. That principle defines the Institute: good public policy begins with asking questions, examining evidence, and challenging assumptions.
