Youth Learning & Empowerment
Workshops and small-cohort learning designed to strengthen the skills that formal education does not always have enough time to develop: research, critical reading, clear writing, digital learning, reasoning, leadership and self-advocacy.
Who it's for
Young people aged roughly 15–25, with an initial focus on Addis Ababa and surrounding regions.

Why it matters
School gives qualifications. Practice gives capability.
Formal education can provide qualifications without always providing enough opportunity to practise the skills needed to find information, evaluate evidence, communicate an argument, speak confidently or navigate unfamiliar opportunities.
Berea Youth Learning & Empowerment is being developed to create a small, practical learning environment where young people can practise those skills.
The goal is not to replace school. It is to strengthen the capabilities young people can carry into education, work and community life.

Critical reading & reasoning
How to understand an argument, challenge assumptions and form a reasoned view.

Practical writing for university, scholarships, professional communication and public discussion.

Digital & study skills
Research tools, document organization, responsible use of AI, presentations and practical learning systems.

Leadership & public speaking
Small-group speaking, presentations, facilitation, confidence and constructive disagreement.

Peer learning
Small cohorts where participants can learn from one another rather than only from an instructor.
Responsible use of AI
Digital literacy at Berea does not mean learning to generate assignments. It means learning to check what a machine tells you.
This follows the same evidence-first standard Berea applies to its own research and commentary.
