About Berea

Our story

An independent, non-profit, non-partisan think tank producing evidence-based research that informs policy, strengthens institutions and promotes sustainable development.

Where the name comes from

The name Berea comes from Acts 17:11, where the Bereans were described as people who eagerly received information and carefully examined the evidence before accepting it. That principle defines the Institute: good public policy begins with asking questions, examining evidence, and challenging assumptions.

Berea was founded on the belief that effective public policy should be driven by evidence, rigorous research and practical solutions rather than ideology or political interests. The Institute operates internationally, with an initial focus on Canada and Ethiopia, while building partnerships across Africa and globally.

  • Evidence comes first.
  • Policy follows.
  • Impact is the goal.
